Why Your Pigment and Technique Need to Work Together
What if an inconsistent result doesn't automatically mean your technique is bad?
Different pigment formulations can behave differently in the skin—and the technique that works beautifully with one may not produce the same result with another.
We'll explore why understanding what you're putting into the skin matters and why technique and pigment should work together instead of against each other.
Because sometimes the better question isn't:
“What am I doing wrong?”
It's:
“Does the way I'm working match what I'm working with?”
Why “Just Add Orange” Isn't Always the Complete Answer
You see a cool or gray healed brow.
You've been taught to add warmth.
But before you decide what color to add, there's a more important question:
Why did it heal that way?
We'll explore why correction should begin with diagnosis instead of assumption—and why knowing a color-theory rule isn't the same as understanding what's actually happening with the pigment already in the skin.
This is where you begin moving beyond memorized answers and start developing real pigment fluency.

Maya didn't deepen her knowledge of pigment science simply because she wanted to know more theory.
She wanted answers.
Why were artists seeing inconsistent healed results?
Why did certain colors behave differently over time?
Why could the same approach produce different outcomes?
Those questions led Maya through years of additional training, research, networking and conversations with chemists and manufacturers as she worked to better understand the factors affecting her own healed work and the work of other PMU artists.
Maya has spent years focused on PMU artistry and educating the industry about the importance of healed work. She has spoken at international PMU conferences, served as a judge in brow competitions and created the Zola PMU machine.
